Modern Horsepower is proud to announce that world class engine builder
Al Papitto will be performing all of our engine work including building,
machining, porting, valve cutting and custom applications.
To speak of all his accomplishments, it would literally take
forever so here’s a brief synopsis.
Al cut his teeth at Cope Racing back in the early 80s where as chief
builder he built and rode world record holding 7 second NHRA Pro-Stock
bikes. These are $50,000
1.5L naturally aspirated 2v/SOHCs that turn 13,500rpm with only ~12:1
static C/R and crank out 350hp—that’s 233hp per liter naturally
aspirated! Al’s own
Aluminum Ford GT based 5.4/4v Modular makes 600rwhp naturally aspirated,
turning 8700rpm regularly (with stock 4.165” stroke and steel connecting
rods) and powering his 3100lb 97 Cobra to 9.2@145 quarter miles.
Additionally Al is responsible for Mike Bell’s 3500HP NHRA blown
alcohol funny car, Steve Gifford’s record holding NMRA Factory Stock 2v
Mustang GT, Joe’s Stage 6 twin turbo Ford GT (1700rwhp + and climbing),
and literally hundreds of other top shelf motors.
Al has also competed in all forms of racing including SCCA (Class B
where he drove Corollas around Corvettes), NHRA/IHRA/NMRA drag racing,
Mini-Motocross, and even with shifter karts; meaning he knows what is
specifically required of a motor on a case by case basis—a pure drag
motor will have different needs and goals than one used on an open track
or the street.

MHP Heads/Cam packages.
Proprietary testing of our new 6.1 H/C packages (5.7s to follow) will
begin shortly. There will be
three “stages” of ported heads to choose from, “Basic” “Full” and
“Race.”
1) The Basic package will be
aimed at the enthusiast on a budget and will include clean up porting a
Serdi 5 angle valve job and stock valve train components—you will have
the ability to upgrade components on an a la carte basis for any type of
ported head. A Basic ported
head will have 70% of the flow potential of a fully ported head.
2) The Full port will
include a full port of the castings, a Serdi 5 angle VJ, and valve train
components based on the customers needs.
3) Finally, our Race porting
equates to the best head you can find on the market period.
With even more time invested in the most critical areas including
further reshaping and recontouring of the ports combined with top of the
line valve train components, these heads will leave everyone and
everything in the dust.
Al will spec and we will have ground for you a custom cam based on your
exact application. Depending
on the combination an aftermarket stall converter may be highly
recommended or even necessary, don’t worry, he’ll spec that as well.
